Troy Resident Loses 106 Pounds with Help of Sola Team

Imagine going through life carrying 13 gallons of water everywhere you go. As a morbidly obese adult, that’s roughly what Cyndi Peacock was doing. The Troy resident and co-owner of Peacock Poultry, located on Rochester Road, says she’d been heavy most of her life, as was her father. But when both fell into bad health, they decided to do something about it.

“I was watching my father die, and I guess I was dying as well,” said Peacock, 48. “I was taking 24 different medications. People think they’re invincible, but obesity does kill.”

Peacock had a host of ailments: diabetes; high cholesterol; kidney, bladder and heart problems; glaucoma; and neuropathy – all results of her morbid obesity.

“Every time your blood sugar exceeds 200 mg/dl, you’re killing something in your body,” she said. “By lowering your glycemic index, you can control or eliminate diabetes altogether.”

And that’s exactly what Peacock did, thanks to Ryanne Moroschan, one of the highly educated fitness coaches at Sola Life & Fitness. The health center is a division Beaumont Health System and located in Rochester Hills on South Boulevard between John R and Dequindre. Soon after Peacock began her weight loss in 2011, she realized she could not do it alone.

“I started with Sola’s aquatics classes,” she said. “It was a way for me to exercise my body and hide at the same time.”

Today, down 106 pounds, Peacock is running foot races and recently completed her first 5k. She’s also a regular at Sola’s Cardio Sculpt and Zumba classes. No longer does Peacock hide from the world. She’s active socially, in business and with her six children and six grandchildren.

“I keep a ‘before’ picture on my phone to remind me of where I’ve been,” she says. “When I get discouraged, that photo gives me motivation to continue my weight-loss journey.”

Peacock says the fitness and nutrition experts at Sola provide her with healthy ways to improve her body, mind and soul, and create positive, lasting habits. Learning to be healthy for the first time, she credits Sola’s medically based programs for reducing the chance that she will need surgery to remove excess skin after such a dramatic weight loss.

“I was a size 4x and now I’m wearing my daughter’s clothes,” Peacock said. “I’m down to just a few medications. Now I’m the one helping to inspire others who are starting their journey. No matter what your ability level, you can do whatever you put your mind to. I’m living proof.”
