New Student Housing Under Construction at Oakland University

Officials broke ground on the 500-bed facility on Tuesday.

A new housing development at Oakland University will serve to provide resident students with a "total campus community," according to university officials.

The start to construction was marked on Tuesday with a ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony including university officials and on-campus residents. With a scheduled opening date of fall 2014, the $30 million center will hold 500 new beds as well as the OU Honors College.

The building was designed by the firm Neumann Smith and will be constructed by Frank Rewold and Son.
