Man Arrested in Bottle Return Scam at Rochester Hills Kroger

Sheriff's Office: Detroit man part of duo accused of cashing in more than $2,000 in fraudulent bottle return slips.

A 49-year-old Detroit man was arrested Tuesday after an alleged bottle return scam at the Rochester Hills Kroger store, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. 

According to the department, deputies responded to Kroger, 65 S. Livernois in Rochester Hills, for a fraud complaint. The company's fraud investigators told deputies they had been investigating two men believed to be cashing in counterfeit bottle return slips from their stores over the past two months.

On Tuesday, the department indicated, one of the two men entered the Rochester Hills store and cashed in $50 worth of bottle return slips and was stopped and detained by the company's fraud investigators. According to the department, the two men are believed to be responsible for more than $2,000 in fraudulent bottle returns.

Deputies arrested the man at the Rochester Hills store and was lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending fraud and uttering and publishing charges, while the second man is still be at large, according to the department.
