Your Guide to Rochester's Summer Events

Looking for something to do this summer? Here's a roundup of this summer's big events.

Summer is still weeks away, but the season for summer events already has started in the Rochester area. Here is your guide to this summer's big events in and near Rochester.

From concerts at Rochester Municipal Park and Meadow Brook Music Festival to Movies in the Moonlight in downtown Rochester, you won't have to go far to enjoy either a day out with the family or a night out as a couple this summer.

June

June 8: 


Downtown Rochester Farmers' Market

Celebrating its 14th season, the Farmers’ Market is a frequent stop for area residents to enjoy the vibrant colors, aromas and flavors of southeast Michigan’s growing season. Located at the corner of E. Third and Water streets, it is one short block east of Main Street and has ample free public parking.

Amp Live 8 — featuring Carly Rae Jepsen, Cher Lloyd, Emblem3 and Zedd
  • 7 p.m.

Recess! Family Music Festival
  • 11 a.m.
  • Meadow Brook Music Festival
The daylong Recess! Family Music Festival is coming to Meadow Brook Music Festival on Saturday, June 22, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets for $25 in the pavilion and on the lawn are on sale at Palacenet.com, The Palace Ticket Store and all Ticketmaster locations.

Festival of the Hills and Rochester Hills fireworks
  • 6 p.m. event start, followed by fireworks at 10:06 p.m.
  • Borden Park at John R. and Hamlin roads in Rochester Hills
This year’s family-friendly event kicks-off at 6 p.m. with activities for all ages, leading up to the countdown of Michigan’s second-largest fireworks display at 10:06 p.m.

George Benson
  • 8 p.m.
  • Meadow Brook Music Festival
Legendary jazz guitarist and R&B singer George Benson, accompanied by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, brings “Inspiration: A Tribute to Nat King Cole” to Meadow Brook Music Festival on June 27 at 8 p.m.

Touring powerhouse O.A.R. will perform at Meadow Brook Music Festival at 6:30 p.m. on June 30 for their Sounds of Summer Tour with special guests Andrew McMahon and Allen Stone.

“1964”…The Tribute, a popular Beatles tribute show, returns to Meadow Brook Music Festival on July 11 at 8 p.m. Cliff Erickson will open the show. Tickets start at $10 for lawn, $20 pavilion.

The Big, Bright Ball
  • 4-7 p.m.
  • Royal Park Hotel
The Big, Bright Ball is the signature fundraising event for The Big, Bright Light Show. The event will offer food, music and fun, including a strolling dinner featuring downtown restaurants. Other activities will include art activities for kids, dancing and a silent auction.

Tickets for The Big, Bright Ball are $30 for adults, $10 for kids 5- 12 and kids under 5 years of age are admitted at no cost.  Tickets are available at the Rochester DDA Office, 308 ½ Main Street (above Holland Floral & Gifts). Attendees also can click here to purchase your tickets online.  Tickets will not be made available at the door.

World-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma will bring his Grammy Award-winning bluegrass collaboration, Goat Rodeo Sessions, to the Meadow Brook Music Festival on Wednesday, August 21 at 8 p.m. Tickets for the Goat Rodeo Sessions are on sale and available online at dso.org and palacenet.com, by phone at 313.576.5111 or at the Max M.
