Tiffany,
My name is Linda Hall Dowton, I am the Great Granddaughter of Fred "Fredrick Marvin" Shinnick. There are a few areas that I think are incorrect in your history of the "Haven". My mother, Fred's Granddaughter, Graham's daughter, would know better than I. If you are intrested in any more info or history of the Shinnick family or the Haven I can get you in touch with my Mother. I remember as a child standing on the old foundation a few years after the fire.
Thank you for your time.
Linda

With all the chatter about the earth ending on May 21, it would be a good time to tell the story of Uriah Adams, the Millerites and the cult that existed in Rochester in the 1800's.

Though I know you have "lots of fun topics to come," here's another prospect if not already listed:
Abram William Van Doren of Stoney Creek was Michigan's the only weaver of mid-19th century bed coverlets. That may seem an odd claim to fame, though not to textile curators at The Henry Ford and Chicago Institute of Art, where Van Doren works are in the permanent collections.
The Roch/Avon Historical Society, naturally, has more at this 3-page PDF: http://bit.ly/e4wGmG
And now that you think about it, isn't 'coverlet' a delightful word to say?!
