Your guide to sledding, snowboarding and more winter fun at the park.
Stony Creek Metropark is home to a variety of snow sports, including sledding, snowboarding and snowshoeing, to name a few. A $5 daily permit gets you in the park, while a $25 annual permit provides year-round entry. The park is open during the winter months from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Check the park website for snow conditions. Sledding hills are located at the Gladeview and West Branch picnic areas. A toboggan hill is located at the West Branch picnic area, near the “F” parking lot. A designated "snowboards only" hill can be found near the Gladeview picnic area. Expect lows to dip to the 30s and 40s this weekend in Rochester, despite warm mid-week temperatures. Snow is possible on Monday.
Well, it was nice while it lasted. The blast of 70-plus-degree summer temperatures this week in Metro Detroit are on their way out, according to the National Weather Service. A cold front is headed into the area and expected to drop temperatures to as low as 32 degrees. Here's what the forecast looks like for the weekend, according to the NWS: Bad news: Snow is possible on Monday, according to the NWS, as temperatures are expected to fall to 44 during the day and 32 in the evening.

Snow will fall throughout the day as winds pick up and temps fall this afternoon.
The fluffy snow falling across the region will continue throughout the day with accumulations of 1-3 inches expected by the end of the day, according to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac. Temperatures will fall to freezing by around 5 p.m. with a nighttime low around 19 degrees. In addition to cold temperatures, blustery conditions are expected tonight as winds pick up this evening to between 14 and 21 m.p.h. with gusts as high as 28 m.p.h. Wednesday is expected to be sunny and windy with a high near 26.

I'm loving it so far. I almost bought a snowmobile at the beginning of winter. I'm glad I held off. The snowblower is still sitting there unused. We were able to do some outdoor work at the cottage that I thought I'd have to wait for spring to do. I've tilled up a portion of my backyard twice to get it ready for new grass seed.
