L. Brooks Patterson 'Optimistic' About County's Economic Outlook

Patterson says county has added about 45,000 jobs between 2012 and 2013.

Oakland County Executive L. Brooke Patterson says he is optimistic about the county's economic outlook, bouncing back after losing 60,000 jobs in 2009 by adding about 45,000 jobs between 2012 and 2013. Patterson made his remarks April 25 at the Economic Outlook Luncheon at the Marriot in Troy. Featured speakers included George Fulton and Donald Grimes of the Center for Labor Market Research.

Oakland County to Offer Free, Walk-In Business Counseling

New service begins May 9 at the county's One Stop Shop Business Center in Waterford.

Entrepreneurs looking to open a business in Oakland County can get free, walk-in business counseling on Thursdays at the county's One Stop Shop Business Center in Waterford. The new Walk-In Business Counseling Service starts May 9 and will offer entrepreneurs free, confidential one-on-one advice from experienced business counselors. “Our One Stop Shop Business Center was designed to assist entrepreneurs who needed guidance getting their business to the next step,” Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said in a press release. Thanks for the link. But I would like to know the cost of this line budget item and Oakland Cty is "guarded" when you question the "freebies". I'll call our Commissioner. Always looks good for press, doesn't necessarily mean it is worthwhile. Maybe combining in other areas and a better program would be more valuable and maybe more effective and efficient where tax payers money is involved. It …   more ›

Oakland County Seeks Input on Parks and Recreation Services

RSVP by Friday to attend one of several workshops next week that will ask residents which parks services they value most.

The Oakland County Parks and Recreation Commission is conducting a series of public workshops next week to gather input on park and recreation services. The commission is in the process of developing a Cost Recovery Model and Philosophy and wants feedback from Oakland County residents, business owners and others who are interested. All are welcome to attend the free workshops, which will be conducted by parks staff and recreation consulting firm GreenPlay LLC on April 16 and 17. "We’ll be talking really about what the community values in terms of parks and recreation services," said Melissa Prowse, Oakland County Business Development Representative.
