How a Sub Sandwich Helped a Group of Student Leaders in Rochester

Three months after opening in Rochester Hills, Jersey Mike's Subs has earned a following while giving back.

When about 70 high schoolers from Rochester and Rochester Hills travel to a leadership conference in northern Michigan this spring, they'll have the community's love of New Jersey-style sub sandwiches to thank. Jersey Mike's Subs, which opened in Rochester Hills in November, recently presented students from Rochester and Stoney Creek high schools with a check for $1,279.29. The money came from a fundraiser at the sub shop; proceeds from subs were set aside to benefit the students. The money will support about 70 Student Council and National Honor Society students from both schools as they co-host their leadership conference at the Grand Traverse Resort.  As hosts, the student groups are responsible for helping to fund the event; the …

What's Rochester's Top-Selling Sub?

At Jersey Mike's, we discovered, it's the No. 13, prepared (of course) "Mike's Way."

It didn't take long for Rochester and Rochester Hills to get used to "Mike's Way."  That's what Jersey Mike's, the town's newest sub shop, calls its special blend of toppings: onions, lettuce, tomatoes, vinegar, oil and spices. Rochester Patch stopped by Jersey Mike's recently to talk to owners about a donation they made to local schools; while there, we ordered up a No. 13 sub of our own, prepared "Mike's Way." Robert Middleton, President of the Rochester Hills sub shop, said it's the most popular sub at Jersey Mike's nationwide - and it's also the most popular here in Rochester. Here's how the sub came together. Have you tried Jersey Mike's? What's your favorite sub?

Jersey Mike's to Open Wednesday in Rochester Hills

It's the third location in the state for the East Coast-style sub restaurant.

Jersey Mike's Subs will open Wednesday on Rochester Road.  The restaurant, located in the former Blockbuster location across from Target, is known for its fresh and grilled subs. The casual restaurant chain started on the Jersey Shore in 1956 and has grown to include 750 locations. According to a news release from Jersey Mike's, the restaurant wins "best sub" awards in "virtually every market it enters." The Jersey Mike’s experience "always includes its trademark neighborly banter served up by a high-energy Jersey Mike’s team," the news release stated. Here's a sneak preview of the menu. Hours at the Rochester Hills location are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Sunday. The Rochester Hills Jersey Mike's follows the September opening of a …

7-Eleven Coming Soon to Rochester Hills

It will join Jersey Mike's in the space vacated by Blockbuster on Rochester Road.

Rochester Hills will soon have its own Slurpees. A 7-Eleven store is being built on Rochester Road across from the Hampton Village Shopping Center north of Auburn Road. According to a press release from the Southfield-based Signature Associates, 7-Eleven will occupy 2,800 square feet of the space that was formerly Blockbuster. There is a 7-Eleven store in Rochester and two in nearby Auburn Hills. Jersey Mike's, a New Jersey-based sub shop, will open its second Michigan location next door to the 7-Eleven store. The restaurant recently opened in Ann Arbor. The Rochester Hills location will be 1,600 square feet.  Work has begun on the Jersey Mike's space; a sign was recently installed on the building. An exact opening date is not known. …
