Some of the biggest names in music take the stage at Madison Square Garden for the live 12-12-12 concert for Sandy relief. While thousands of people fill the arena, billions are watching live on a variety of screens worldwide. The concert is streaming live on television networks, movie theater screens and on the Internet, including right here on Patch. The pre-event coverage begins at 4:00 p.m. EST and the concert is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m. The all-star lineup includes Bon Jovi, Eric Clapton, Dave Grohl, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Chris Martin, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Eddie Vedder, Roger Waters, Kanye West, The Who, and Paul McCartney, with other artists to be announced. Here's how you can help, too
It's been said it's far better to have a neighbor who's near, than a brother who's far away, but in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, Americans across the nation have proven to be the best neighbors and the strongest of families. This past weekend, AOL and Patch employees took an opportunity to pitch in, packing two tractor trailers worth of food, water and supplies in Dulles, VA, and Baltimore. The power was expected to be restored Tuesday night, according to DTE.
High winds Monday were responsible for pockets of power outages throughout northern Oakland County. According to a DTE Energy power outage map, more than 350 customers in Rochester Hills and Oakland Township lost power Monday night; the power was expected to be restored Tuesday night. Here's a look at the outages; check back with Patch for updates about the wind and the power outages. DTE has released around 100 contract line crews to assist with expected major outages on the east coast as Hurricane Sandy hits. However, DTE's own crews will be staying in Michigan. As the storm hits the East Coast, rain, wind and cold weather will be felt in the Midwest—including Rochester — this week.
There won't be any flooding or evacuations, but Hurricane Sandy's reach will have a big impact on Michigan weather this week. The storm system—expected to be one of the largest and most destructive in history—has resulted in evacuations and state of emergency declarations across the east coast, as well as the closure of public transportation in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia. According to the National Weather Service, as Sandy moves west, the system will bring high winds, colder weather and rain to the Midwest. The effects will be felt throughout southern Michigan, though the greatest impact will be on the southwest coast near Lake Michigan.
