Where the Coyotes Are in Rochester, Rochester Hills

Patch readers have been reporting coyote sightings around town. Where have you seen the animals? Share your sightings on our interactive map.

On the Rochester Patch Facebook page, resident Karen Oberst recently posted the following warning: "ATTENTION PET OWNERS: Keep an eye on your pets ... I was informed that there are have been coyote sightings in Rochester Hills. One of my facebook friends saw one in her back yard Friday morning!" It's true: coyotes are a part of the wildlife in Rochester Hills. According to Rochester Hills Naturalist Lance DeVoe, the Rochester area has always had coyotes, and probably always will. There was a nesting pair of Sharp-shinned Hawks last year on Romeo . I also observed a deer walking down Romeo at dusk, and 3 at 7-11 at sunrise. There is still may species of wildlife in the area, albeit in different areas than in the past.   more ›

Did a Bobcat Run Through Rochester Hills Back Yard?

Not likely - though anything is possible, area wildlife experts say.

Do bobcats roam the subdivisions of Rochester Hills? That's a question the community is asking after a resident reported seeing "what looked like a large bobcat" run through his back yard on Sunday afternoon. The possible sighting was on Walton Boulevard west of Old Perch, and the resident identified large footprints in the yard immediately afterward, according to a news tip sent to Rochester Patch.  After posting a "be on the lookout" warning on the Rochester Patch Facebook page, several residents discredited the report - but others chimed in with their beliefs.
