There are a variety of ways to give back to people in Oakland County and beyond; many of which we have touched on in our 30 Days of Giving series. However we are just scratching the surface. It’s important to remember that people are in need all year round, and though the holidays provide an extra burden in many cases, need is a perpetual thing. Host a toy drive, party or collect change throughout the year then donate to your charity of choice.

HAVEN, a non-profit organization with locations in Pontiac, Royal Oak and Bingham Farms, gives women, men and children who are being abused the tools they need to get out of violent relationship and live a healthy life. HAVEN offers its clients a variety of services, including counseling, a 24-hour crisis line, prevention education, a safe shelter and more. Help buy or deliver meals for homebound seniors.

The request for meals for homebound seniors is on the rise, especially during the holidays for the Meals on Wheels program, which delivers meals to homebound seniors unable to prepare food for themselves. According to the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) 1-B, which aids seniors in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties, Meals on Wheels delivers around 7,300 meals throughout the area during the year's six major holidays, includng Christmas and Hanukah.  While weekly meals through Meals …

30 Days of Giving, Day 25: Honor Flight Michigan Legacy

Veterans' group seeks support to build a World War II monument in Royal Oak.

The Honor Flight Michigan Legacy Inc. is a nonprofit group based out of Royal Oak that raises funds to fly World War II veterans to Washington, DC, to see the World War II memorial. From 2007-10, the organization was able to escort about 1,400 veterans to see the monument for the first time. Now, Honor Flight Michigan Legacy has a new mission: to build a World War II monument in Royal Oak's Memorial Park. Reach Out and Help Others Through Kensington Church Programs
