Rochester High School students live and learn by this mission: "Working together to develop the skills and knowledge…More students must have to lead responsible, healthy, successful lives."
The school's beginnings go back more than a century; in 1889 the "Academy on the Hill" at Wilcox and Fourth streets housed all students; a separate high school facility was built there in 1916. After a steadily increasing enrollment, the current Rochester High School was built at University and Livernois. Students ceremoniously walked from the old building to the new building to begin classes in 1956.
The school underwent major renovations in 2001. It now features a performing arts theater, a courtyard with a greenhouse, a football stadium with artificial turf and state-of-the-art computer and science labs.
Charles Rowland has been principal of the high school, home of the Falcons, since 2011.
