More than 50 dogs and their owners came to sit with Santa at The Peppertree's first-ever Dog Day last week. It was a "dog's delight," said Judy Walby of The Peppertree, a downtown Rochester boutique. Dogs also were able to get a ceramic pawprint from Jill Washburn of Washburn Creative. The Urban Dog and Wet Noses Pet Camp also contributed treats and special deals for the dogs.

Hart Middle School 6th Grade Girl Scout Troop 46734 walked as elves in the 2011 Rochester Hometown Christmas Parade on December 4. The girls celebrated six decades of Christmas joy by carrying items representative of the decades, including Barbie dolls, slinkies, hoola-hoops and Webkinz, and wearing accessories from the 70s and 80s, including legwarmers, lace fingerless gloves and afros. They also passed out candy canes along the parade route.

On Wednesday, Dec. 7th, 1st Grade Daisy Girl Scouts from Meadow Brook Elementary visited seniors at Harbor Chase Assisted Living to spread some holiday cheer. As a project to earn their “Respect myself and others” Daisy petal, the troop performed a collection of holiday songs for the delighted residents.Accompanying the girls on keyboard was Ms. Kathleen Perkins, a retired music teacher from Baldwin Elementary, who kindly stayed on and took requests from the residents after the girls were finished their performance. After singing for the residents, the Daisy troop stayed behind and made Christmasornaments to leave for their new friends. Harbor Chase employee Ms. Laura Dyki said that during the performance she witnessed rare smiles on the faces of some residents. And judging from the girls’ level ofexcitement after the event the visit brought joy to both young and old.

A recent phone call to Rochester Hills residents thanks Rochester Hills City Council for “saying no to a small group of homosexual activists who tried to bully the council into adopting a discriminatory, special right ordinance. This ordinance would have discriminated against and punished community groups such as the Boy Scouts, Catholic Charities, The Salvation Army, Christian daycare owners and other businesses and people of faith who refuse to endorse homosexual behavior or the political agenda that seeks to promote it. “ It continued: “Please also join us in thanking State Representative Tom McMillin for working in Lansing to try to stop these kinds of discriminatory ordinances statewide.”

Cool. We should have cameras throughout Main Street fed directly to the police department!
