I think the real story here is that the judge went too light in sentencing the defendant because heRead More excused his violent crime on not having a father figure in his life. Another out of touch judge who fails to do his job in handing out justice because of his goody-two-shoes social agenda. Where do we get these weakling judges who ignore the victim's pain and suffering in favor of over emphasis on the criminal's poor upbringing? More violent crime is the unintended consequence of soft love judges like him.
MoJo July 18, 2014 at 11:54 am
while the judge overseeing the case said the defendant needs “someone to beat the hell out ofRead More you when you made a mistake.” Uh.....not sure if the judge is aware, but it's about 99% likely that that's EXACTLY what happened to the defendant his whole life, and that's why he's now the monster he is. Not excusing his behavior in any way, and as far as I'm concerned he can rot in jail for the rest of his life. But until we start addressing the causes of violent crime instead of just punishing after the fact, we'll continue to see things like this happen. I'd be willing to bet Mr. Utash's family would much prefer that this whole thing had been prevented rather than taking satisfaction in any punishment that the perpetrators might be sentenced to.
Dale Behler July 18, 2014 at 08:14 pm
MoJo....I can't dispute what you say. But in a lot of cases, upbringing and social conditions areRead More used as a convenient excuse for violent behavior. Movies, video games and TV programming also promote our culture of violence. That aspect of the problem is ignored. Maybe need to cut foreign aid and apply some of those billions to help our own folks here at home.

Wow, I love all the perfect people. When my son was little he would get out of bed and go watchRead More cartoons in the morning before we even got up. We didn't know when he was going to get up and he didn't wake us. We did know he like to watch cartoons so we would set the TV to that when we went to bed. When we did get up he was sitting there watching the TV and nibbling on cereal. He is 14 now and perfectly healthy, smart and independent. He didn't need me to watch him EVERY single second. I mean what do you parents do when you have to go to the bathroom? Are you up when the kids go to bed and as soon as they get up in the morning? The kids are never up before you? If they are do you handcuff them to the bed or lock them in a padded room so they can't possibly get into anything? This was a very unfortunate accident. I didn't see anywhere that it said the child was outside when they woke up. My understanding was that he was playing inside and they thought he was safe. Maybe they should have made sure the doors to get out were more secure (if there was a habit of him going out on his own). Maybe because of his special needs his parents did have to watch him better; I don't pretend to know their situation and their child. I just know in my own case, my son was ok being up while I still slept. He was so quiet I didn't even know he was up. If he needed something he would wake me. This doesn't make me a bad parent. When my son was 2 I was working full time and finishing my college degree. I didn't get very much sleep and was very tired. I'm sure the parents feel terrible and what happened is terrible and they have to live with this. I'm not saying there wasn't anything they could have done. We don't know if this child had a history of sneaking out like that or if he was always playing within sight. Maybe this was a one time, freak accident. Unless you are perfect you don't need to bash others. I'm ok with my parenting style. Maybe you think I am too lax but my child does pretty well and always has. He even made me hot (oh my gosh he could burn himself) soup the other day when I was sick. I'm there if he needs me and he has rules but I'm not hovering over him all of the time either.

But alas, 'if' they go to prison, they'll enjoy 3 squares daily, television and movies, exercise rooms, medical and dental care.... Ridiculous actually, and the reason thugs don't mind prison.

"Warren has a new ordinance in place involving fireworks and keeping citizens safe during theRead More holidays. Mayor Jim Fouts rode along with a Sergeant with Warren police to refresh the minds of local businesses about the new ordinance. "Among those are you cannot sell to minors,” said Mayor Fouts. “You should ask for ID. Number two: you cannot sell to anyone under the influence." In Warren, fireworks can only be discharged the day before and the day after a holiday. A minor can only discharge ground sparklers, and they cannot be discharged on national holidays between 11:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m. Fireworks cannot be discharged on any street in Warren. Traffic cannot be impeded at anytime. Discharge of fireworks is prohibited in any public park, school property, city streets and sidewalks and easement, including the ITC corridor. "We have zero tolerance for using fireworks within 30 feet of residential area. You can't use fireworks in school parking lots or church parking lots," said Mayor Fouts. If anyone doesn't follow the regulations, they will be ticketed and have to pay $500. The mayor believes a lot of people are not informed of the regulations. Some may just get a warning ticket. He also says he is somewhat "challenging" the state law when it comes to fireworks. Right now, in Michigan you can set off fireworks until midnight. Mayor Fouts is strongly recommending people to stop before 11:00 pm. "As many of the residents have told me, not just in warren but in other cities, it sounds like they are in the middle of a war zone," said Mayor Fouts. According to the mayor, every year fireworks season gets longer and longer. Many people setting them off over memorial day weekend." maybe its time for all mayors to follow Warrens Mr. Fouts rather than throwing up their hands.

I'm on the fence about the father's reaction. I don't have children but I believe my initial gutRead More would be to jump out of my seat to go and see my son. However if I'm in shock because I've been told that my son is probably dead, I may stutter and be frozen for a moment. The other details are very disturbing.
