Columbus Day Parade and More This Weekend in Metro Detroit

From fine art in Birmingham to fried mac-n-cheese balls in Farmington, there's something for everyone to enjoy this weekend in southeast Michigan.

Mt. Clemens

2013 Columbus Day Parade
Columbus Day is on Monday, and a great way to celebrate is to check out this annual parade in Macomb County, which celebrates Italian heritage. It's being held in Mt. Clemens for the second year in a row, after moving from Clinton Township last year.
When: Saturday, 11 a.m.
Where: 1 Crocker Blvd., Mt Clemens

Birmingham

Our Town Art Show and Fair
This juried, all media art show provides a forum for Michigan artists to show and sell their work. The art ranges from traditional to contemporary.
When: Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: The Community House, 380 South Bates St., Birmingham
Price: Free and open to the public

Royal Oak

Royal Oak Beerfest
Sample more than 100 beers at the first annual Royal Oak Beerfest, which is being put on by the Royal Oak Farmer’s Marketand Real Detroit Weekly. The event will feature live music by theReefermen, food from Detroit BBQ, Rolling Stone Pizza, ElGuapo and Shimmy Shack, plus more than 100 different Oktoberfest beers, ales, IPA’s, cider and more.
When: Saturday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: Royal Oak Farmers Market, 316 E 11 Mile Rd., Royal Oak
Price: Tickets $35; V.I.P. tickets $50. 

Farmington

Mad Science Show
Mad Science of Detroit will be just one act in a day filled with family fun Saturday, to raise funds and awareness for an ice rink slated to be installed this winter in downtown Farmington's Riley Park. Before the show, kids can enjoy ice fishing, a hockey shot competition, a snow ball toss and more, all for only $2.
When: Saturday, show starts at 1 p.m. Kids events take place starting at 9:30 a.m.
Where: Riley Park, Grand River and Grove, Farmington
Price: Tickets are $7 per person, with $5 from each ticket benefitting the ice rink.

FoodaPollooza! 
Food Truck Rally
Get your fill of tasty food from popular Detroit area food trucks, including the Shimmy Shack, which offers up vegetarian and vegan options; Treat Dreams; the Grindhouse and the Mac Shack, which specializes in Fried Mac-n-cheese balls.
When: Sunday, 2:30 p.m.
Where: Riley Park, Grand River and Grove, Farmington
Price: Free to attend, food will be available for purchase.
