The Daffodils Are Coming to Dinosaur Hill: Order Yours Today

Daffodils for Dinosaurs is the nature center's largest fundraiser.

Across Rochester and Rochester Hills, daffodils are starting to pop out of the ground.

Soon, the bright yellow blooms will be arriving around town en masse.

Daffodils for Dinosaurs, a fundraiser for in Rochester, brings thousands of daffodils to town each spring. The flowers can be ordered in advance or picked up at area grocery stores next weekend. They can be donated to area Meals on Wheels recipients, too.

The daffodils are $4 for a bunch of 10.

“Daffodils for Dinosaurs is our biggest fundraiser of the year”, said Rita Becker of Dinosaur Hill. Proceeds from the event will benefit the nonprofit preserve, which has provided environmental education programming for school children, adults and families for over 35 years.

Here are your daffodil purchasing options for 2012:

  • Pre-order: Contact Dinosaur Hill before March 19 at (248) 656-0999, by e-mail at daffodils@dinosaurhill.org, or check online at http://daffodils.dinosaurhill.org. Pre-ordered daffodils can be picked up at the nature center March 21, 22, or 23.
  • Buy them around town: Volunteers will be selling daffodils at spots around town March 23, 24 or 25 at Kroger and at Papa Joe's.
  • Pre-order as a gift for someone else and let Dinosaur Hill deliver for you:  Send daffodils to someone you appreciate (staff at your doctor’s office, secretaries in your office, staff at your child’s school, etc).  For a minimum order of eight bunches ($32) Dinosaur Hill will deliver flowers to any location in the 48307, 48306, 48309 or 48326 ZIP code on March 22.
  • Bring a smile to the face of a local senior:  Dinosaur Hill is again partnering with the Older Persons' Commission to deliver bunches of daffodils to local seniors served by the Meals On Wheels program.  For every $4 you donate, Dinosaur Hill will provide one bunch of daffodils to be delivered to a participant in the program. Meals On Wheels daffodils will be delivered on March 22 and 23.

Regardless of whether you choose to pick up, gift or donate, all orders must be received by Monday.

The following sponsors are helping to underwrite the cost of the daffodils: Neil King Physical Therapy Inc, Crittenton Medical Center Foundation,  Eugenia’s Third Street Hair Gallery, French Associates, Talmer Bank & Trust (Rochester Hills Branch); Gofrank & Mattina PC., Rochester DDA and the Erik Ambrozaitis Team.

The daffodils we purchase through our office are sent to the area nursing homes as a bit of spring-The residents and staff love them. The daffodils I purchase are for neighbors, friends and our own enjoyment. This is one Rochester tradition that gives back in a few ways-it also helps stir excitement for gardens, yards, parks, and walks. It's a great way to help Dinosaur Hill and enjoy some special flowers that signal spring has arrived in Rochester-
