Food Pantry in Need of Donations

Neighborhood House issues call for help in restocking shelves of busy food pantry.

It's even tougher when the pantry is not your own, but is the one designed to feed the neediest part of the community where you live.

The , which serves struggling families in Rochester, Rochester Hills, Oakland Township and beyond, is calling on the community to help restock its dwindling food pantry supplies.

The food pantry, which is housed at the in Rochester, is in desperate need of food and cash donations, according to volunteers and neighborhood house director Linda Riggs.

"Summer is always a very busy time. Children are home from school so families need to keep more food in the house, and often donations are down as fewer schools and groups are organizing food donation drives," a neighorhood house news release stated.

What's needed? Any kind of food donations are welcome, but the food pantry is especially in need of:

  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Cereal
  • Oatmeal
  • Rice
  • Pasta
  • Tuna
  • Canned chicken, pork and beans
  • Soup
  • Canned and fresh fruit
  • Canned beans
  • Canned or fresh vegetables

Cash and gift card donations are also welcome, as volunteers can then shop for milk, dairy products or other perishable items. All donations can be dropped off at the church.
