Cast Your Online Vote to Help Brookwood Project Make a Big Difference

A subdivision flea market that has grown to become a tradition in Rochester Hills is the only Michigan-based project named a finalist for USA Weekend's 2012 Make a Difference Day All-Star Award.

If chosen as a winner, the would receive $10,000 for charity.

Starting today and every day through Feb. 29 you can vote online for the Brookwood project. Voting begins at 8 a.m.

"We are a group of extremely dedicated, hard-working volunteers," said Joanne Marcil, who with a small garage sale. "We have been very successful in raising funds for charity, while planting the seeds of volunteerism in our community, particularly with young people.

"We have set a great example of how neighbors, family and friends can come together to truly make a difference in the lives of others.”

Last fall, the Brookwood flea market raised a record $17,700 for five local charities: the Baldwin Center in Pontiac, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Michigan Chapter; the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International; in downtown Rochester, and The Women’s Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Rochester.

Over the past two decades, the project has donated more than $100,000 to local charities.

According to USA Weekend, one Make A Difference Day All-Star Award honoree will be selected from among nine national finalists through online voting. Only one vote per person per day is allowed.
