Brooksie Way Training Program Takes Runners From Couch to Starting Line

One needn't be a lifelong athlete in order to compete in this fall's challenging Brooksie Way festival of races.

A 12-week training program starting July 11 promises to take runners from the couch to the 5K or 10K in a supportive group setting leading up to the Sept. 29 races. A half-marathon iteration of the training program already is under way.

The group will meet at 6:30 p.m. each Thursday at the Auburn Hills Community Center at Squirrel and University, according to Sue Barnes from the Brooksie Way.

"What's nice with the training program is you don't have to do it alone," she said. "You're grouped with other people going the same speed with supportive, enthusiastic people to help them reach their goal."

The Brooksie Way Training Program is for those who have never participated in a race before and for those who are looking to improve their time goals.
