The Grangers: Vintage "Base Ball"

The Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm will serve as the home field for another season of vintage baseball featuring the Rochester Grangers Vintage Base Ball Club.  A Match will be held at Halbach Field in Rochester on Saturday, May 26 at 1 p.m. as part of the Rochester Area Heritage Festival and other home matches will be played at the Rochester Hills Museum on June 16, July 21, July 28, August 11, August 25 and September 1. Matches begin at 1 p.m. and guests are encouraged to bring their own chair.  Admission is free to the matches and the Van Hoosen Dairy Barn and local history exhibits are open during the matches.  In addition, every guest can have a complimentary hot dog after each match and run the bases.

Vintage base ball captures the start of base ball fever in the United States during the Civil War.  Matches are played according to the rules of the early 1860s, which means no gloves and exceptional gentlemanly behavior.  Matches are nine innings, pitchers throw underhanded, and various terminology harkens back to the early days of this national past time. For additional information on the Grangers and to see a full schedule of matches visit www.rochestergrangers.com.
