When Is Spring Break? (And Other Questions for the School Calendar)

Here's a look at the key dates for Rochester Community Schools this year.

Rochester Community School leaders tentatively agreed this week to the 2012-13 school year calendar. Here are the key dates:

  • September 4: First Day of School for Students: Half-day (K-5); Full-day (6-12)
  • November 5: No School for Students (K-12)
  • November 6: No School for Students (K-12)
  • November 20: Thanksgiving Recess Begins at End of Day (K-12)
  • November 21: No School for Students (K-12)
  • December 21: Winter Recess Begins at End of Day (K-12)
  • January 7: Classes Resume (K-12)
  • January 16: Half Day of School for Students (6-12); AM Exams
  • January 17: Half Day of School for Students (6-12); AM Exams
  • January 18: No School for Students (K-5); Half Day of School for Students (6-12); AM Exams
  • January 21: Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday - No School (K-12)
  • February 15: Midwinter Recess Begins at End of Full Day (K-12)
  • February 20: Classes Resume (K-12)
  • March 5: No School for Students (K-10 & 12): MI Merit-ACT at High Schools for Grade 11 
  • March 27: Spring Recess for Students Begins at End of Full Day (K-12)
  • April 8: Classes Resume, Fourth Marking Period Begins (K-12)
  • May 3: No School for Students (K-12)
  • May 27: Memorial Day Holiday - No School (K-12)
  • June 11: Half Day of School for Students (6-11); AM Exams
  • June 12: Half Day of School for Students (6-11); AM Exams; Last Day of School for Elementary Students (K-5)
  • June 13: Half Day of School for Students (6-11); AM Exams; Last Day of School for Grades 6-11

Unbelievable....why all these "no school" days...are teachers getting overworked, or is the school schedule too hard for our kids ??

technically, isn't it Easter break? Just like "winter recess" is actually Christmas break.
