School Receives Grant for Outdoor Learning Center

Brooklands Elementary will convert an outdated playground into place for learning about recycling and weather science thanks to Recyclebank funds.

in Rochester Hills will build an outdoor learning center with money awarded this week by Recyclebank, the incentive program for recycling in the city.

Representatives of the school received a check for $5,000 on Tuesday during a short ceremony at the school. The Brooklands PTA plans to convert an outdated playground on the school's campus into an area for composting, weather experiments and decorative features made from recycled items. They will also install benches so the area can be used for outdoor lessons.

The money was awarded through Recyclebank's Green Schools grant program. Schools across the country submitted green project proposals to Recyclebank, and Recyclebank members donated their incentive points to help fund the projects. Recyclebank matched the point donations dollar-for-dollar.
