Still learning

Pierobon, 45, is a part-time nurse at Henry Ford Health Center and an Army Reservist. She said she believes her background in nursing will bring something new to the board table; she is an advocate for developing the whole child and believes that promoting a healthy lifestyle is an important part of the picture.

Pierobon was born in Rochester but was raised in Troy. She and her husband chose to move their family to Rochester because it has so much to offer, including a quality public education for their children.

"It is a great district," she said. "People choose to live here."

Pierobon calls herself a "lifelong learner" and puts words into action: She is learning to play piano and guitar, takes dance class and has recently received her motorcycle endorsement.

She likes to travel, garden and cook in her free time.

Facing district challenges

The Rochester school district, like districts across Michigan, is facing a decline in state funding for public education, and Pierobon calls upon residents and employees to "share the burden."

She said Rochester is a great place for teachers to work and as a result we have been able to "pick the cream of the crop."

Pierobon said she wants to maintain Rochester as a district that continues to attract the best teachers.

She also said she hopes to find ways to increase revenue and find productive paths to compromise without "blaming and finger-pointing."
