Rochester School Budget Will Be Put to a Vote Tonight

School lunch prices, Chartwells contract renewal and school bus purchases are also on the agenda.

The Rochester Board of Education is expected to vote Monday night on the 2012-13 school district budget.

The general fund budget, as proposed, is $157 million; it encompasses about $5 million in borrowed funding from the district's $22 million fund balance.

The proposed budget includes the privatization of custodian and transportation services, which the board approved earlier this year. There are details about the budget hearing here.

In addition to the public hearing on the budget, board members will consider the following:

  • Chartwells School Dining services. The administration is recommending their contract be renewed next year.
  • School lunch prices. The administration team is recommending that lunch prices remain the same next year: elementary lunch is $2.80, secondary lunch is $3.05 and breakfast is $1.30.
  • Three school buses. Board members will consider the purchase of three school buses for a price not to exceed $269,439. The bus purchases are a necessity stemming from the change to all-day, everyday kindergarten.
  • Speed limit signs at Musson Elementary.
  • Revisions to the district's Internet Safety Policy. The revisions put the policy in line with national Children's Internet Protection Act and specify that school staff will work to educate and monitor students on Internet use.
  • Contract extensions for more than 60 school administrators.
  • Revisions to the district's Anti-Bullying policy.
  • Virtual Learning Academy. The board will vote on an intergovernmental agreement with Oakland Schools for the online learning program.

The board meets at 7 p.m. in the Harrison Room of the school administration building. The meeting is open to the public.
