Rochester Community Schools Steps Up Security Over Spring Break

District to install much of video intercom and keyless entry systems over break, expects project to be completed by end of school year.

Rochester Community Schools will be stepping up its security measures over spring break, according to an update provided Thursday by Daniel Romzek, assistant superintendent for business, and John Stoner, director of facilities operations.

The Board of Education on Feb. 11 approved a bid for door entry systems to be installed in all elementary and middle schools. According to the district, high schools already have keyless entries and also have security personnel to man the doors. The bid included an audio/video intercom door access system at the main door and the installation of keyless entries at other designated access points, the update indicated.

According to the district, installation of the video intercom door access systems has already begun and will intensify over Spring Break, but the installation will not yet be complete by the time students return on April 8. Full implementation will take place on a building-by-building basis with the goal of having all video intercom door access systems installed and functional by the end of the school year, according to the district.

Wiring for the keyless entry system is nearing completion and will continue on a school-by-school basis, the district indicated. The district's goal is to have some schools completed before the end of the school year, with others coming on board over the summer.
