A 60-second TV spot that boasts "we can be extraordinary" has earned a national recognition.
The university was recently awarded a "Telly" award for the commercial; from among 11,000 international entries, the ad received a bronze award in the local TV and cable category for schools, colleges and universities.
The Telly Awards honor film and video production as well as commercials.
"We are all on a quest to discover who we will be," a voiceover on the commercial says. "With creativity, drive and determination we can be something special. We can be extraordinary.
"Oakland University shapes and challenges the minds that will forge our future to think differently and push further. Because this is our time."
The award-winning TV commercial is one component of a campaign that includes digital advertising, radio, print, outdoor and website extensions; the campaign is developed by the university and by Real Integrated, a Bloomfield Hills marketing firm.
"The campaign is particularly effective because it illustrates what is at the heart of the Oakland experience – namely exemplary academics and engaging student life activities that help cultivate the innovators and leaders of the next generation," said Gary Russi, Oakland University president, in a statement on the university website.
