Safety Town

Safety Town is a two-week day camp for children ages 4-6 that teaches young children the basics of street safety before entering elementary school. Your children will develop an understanding of safety in their environment as well as a healthy awareness of danger by navigating the streets of Safety Town, a child-size town complete with buildings, cars, bikes, traffic lights, and signs. Safety Town’s curriculum is specifically designed for children between the ages of four and six by the National Safety Town Corporation and is sponsored locally by the Rochester Area Jaycees. Students learn a variety of safety skills including home, neighborhood, stranger, fire, bike, emergency and pedestrian safety.   Activities are planned and administered by teachers and teen volunteers including arts and crafts, poems, songs and special presentations by the Fire Department, the Sheriff’s Department and DTE Energy.

The class is two weeks in length, Monday - Thursday. The final course of the year will be offered July 23 – August 2, 2012. Choose between morning or afternoon classes from 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM or 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM. The cost is $70 per student. On the last day of class parents are invited to attend the Safety Town graduation ceremony, at which each child will receive a certificate and Safety Town T-shirt.

Enrollment is currently underway through the Rochester Community Schools Enrichment office. Call (248) 726-3165 or visit http://rochester.augusoft.net and click the "Enrichment for All" button.
