Rochester-Avon Historical Society Presents: Michigan's Role in the Civil War

Jack Dempsey, chairman of the Michigan Sesquicentennial Committee, will be the featured speaker for the Rochester-Avon Historical Society's November evening meeting. Dempsey is the author of a new book titled, Michigan and the Civil War: A Great and Bloody Sacrifice

According to a press release issued by the historical society, Michigan was the first western state to march its First Michigan Regiment into Washington D.C. a month after war was declared in May 1861. The regiment was met with much fanfare and celebration from the Lincoln administration.

Dempsey will discuss his new book and Michigan's role in the Civil War.
