Avondale School District Public Forum to Discuss Proposed Education Budget Cuts and Other Education Changes

Avondale School District, an achievement-oriented learning community focused on student leadership and success in academics, the arts, and athletics, announces a budget forum to discuss current economic issues facing the Avondale School District. Parents, teachers and concerned citizens are invited to attend the forum.

Avondale Superintendent George Heitsch, Ed.D., along with the Avondale Board of Education, will discuss such questions as:

  • What has happened to the promises of Proposal A?
  • What does Governor Snyder’s recent announcement about schools of choice, teacher merit pay, and other education-based reforms mean for Avondale?
  • If Avondale is already a deficit district, why isn’t the District exempt from further budget cuts?
  • Avondale has already made significant cuts in spending. What do the additional proposed budget cuts from Governor Snyder mean for Avondale?
  • Avondale has made measurable improvements in student achievement over the last few years. How can we continue to Advance Avondale in light of the current grim economic realities facing our district?

“The greater school community is going to be deeply impacted by the Governor’s proposed changes to education spending and practices.  We want input and support from Avondale families and friends as we enter the next frontier of our district’s history,” explains Dr. Heitsch.
