5 New School Buses to Hit the Roads Early Next Year in Rochester

Five 12-year-old Rochester Community Schools buses, each with more than 150,000 miles on them, will be replaced in late February.

The Rochester Board of Education approved the $469,105 purchase this week; the 77-passenger buses will be bought from Capital City International Trucks. 

According to the district's contract with Durham School Services, which manages busing in Rochester, the district must either replace its own buses after 12 years or pay Durham a usage rate for its buses. 

According to Dan Romzek, Rochester's superintendent for business, the district's relationship with Durham is still in its early stages and although that relationship is going well, it is "prudent" for the district to buy its own buses at this time. 

The purchase of the buses was allocated in the district's 2012-13 budget. 

There are currently 112 school buses on Rochester roads.
