1 Week Left to File for School Board Election

Three candidates have filed so far for three positions on the Rochester Board of Education.

Voters in the district will elect three members to its Board of Education in November.

The deadline for candidates to file for a spot on the ballot is 4 p.m. Aug. 16.

Who is running?

This year, the terms of board members Beth Talbert, Marty Sibert and Barb Cenko are set to expire. As of Tuesday morning, none of them had filed petitions to seek re-election.

According to the Oakland County Clerk's office, Jeremy Nielson, Jane Pierobon and Pat Piskulich are on the ballot.

What is a school board?

Positions on the Board of Education are six-year terms. According to the Rochester Community Schools website, the role of the seven-member board is to recruit, hire and evaluate the performance of the superintendent, review and adopt the budget, establish district policies, respond to community ideas, advocate for the public school system and determine school facility needs.

How to file

To have your name placed on the ballot, you need to be a registered voter and live in the district. You also need a minimum of 40 signatures of qualified and registered voters or pay a $100 filing fee
