Spring into Some Great Reading!

Enjoy these great reads at the library this month.

Killer Librarian by Mary Lou Kirwin (2013)
Small-town Minnesotan librarian Karen Nash is about to embark upon the trip of her dreams…until her boyfriend abruptly dumps her and leaves for England-with a much younger woman.  Heartbroken but determined to enjoy her trip anyway-with or without him, Karen purchases another ticket and books a room at a charming bed and breakfast.  An avid Anglophile, she is having a wonderful time exploring shops, theatre, and bookstores, until a fellow boarder is found dead. Murder, mystery, and intrigue, with a dash of book lover’s humor are all to be found here. Will Karen find a happy ending?   Read this if you’re looking for a cozy mix of travel, light mystery, and a little romance.  ~  Recommended by Mei-Ling

Serena by Ron Rash (2008)
Set in the 1930’s, a wealthy adult orphan meets and marries a wealthy timber
baron harvesting timber in Tennessee. They are out to harvest as much lumber as they can.  Serena, the wife, is ruthless in her plans and desires.  There is conflict at this timesince legislation has been proposed to set up a national park called the Great Smokey Mountain Park which is in opposition to the lumber barons. There is also a boy born out of wedlock, a mountain woman and a raft of timber workers. This has a good plot along with great character development.  I thoroughly enjoyed this read even though we know what ultimately happened to the forests of Tennessee.  ~  Recommended by Sue

Definitely Not Mr. Darcy by Karen Doornebos (2011)
Have you ever wondered what life was really like in Regency England?  Chloe
Parker, an American Jane Austen fan, gets to find out when she lands a spot on
a British TV program. For a few weeks she is expected to live like people did
in 1812 while competing with many other ladies for the affections of Sebastian
Wrightman, the neighbor to Mr. Darcy.  As the competition progresses, Chloe begins to have feelings for his younger brother, Henry, as well.  Finally, she realizes a few truths about the romantic period she adores, and she also
realizes a few truths about Sebastian.  This spellbinding novel will be a favorite among Jane Austen fans.  ~ Recommended by Jennifer

The Newlyweds by Nell Freudenberger (2012)
Amina, a bright young Bangladeshi woman, meets her American husband on an
online dating site. Unsatisfied with her life as an English tutor, she hopes
her marriage to George will mean obtaining a green card and a new life for her
and her parents. Adapting to life with each other is difficult at first and
both George and Amina face many obstacles. It isn’t until they are separated
across an ocean that they determine the strength, or lack thereof, of their
relationship. The Newlyweds is a fascinating a look at cultural, communication,
and religious differences that arise at the beginning of a relationship.  ~  Recommended by Rebekah, especially in audiobook.

Silver:  Return to Treasure Island by Andrew Motion (2012)
Set sail again for Treasure Island! This second generation of adventurers aims
to find the rest of the treasure, namely silver, on the island. Following the original
map, they find more than they imagined. Faced with a dangerous moral decision
on the island, the crew embarks on a rescue mission that involves pirates,
silver, and human bondage. The author paints the island as you remember from
Stevenson's tale, but with additional terrors and beauty. Well, shiver me
timbers, and yo, ho, ho!   ~  Recommended by Connie
