Rochester: Help Us Kickstart Coworking!

Rochester's own co-working space has made it onto Kickstarter, and now we need the community's help to open the doors.

Hopefully by now you've heard of our effort to open the newest co-working space in Michigan right here in downtown Rochester, but just in case you haven't, here's a quick recap:

Co-working describes a shared office space where work-from-home types go to get work done; think freelancers, small business owners, remote employees, creatives and other nomad-professionals.  They have the flexibility to work from anywhere but enjoy the motivation and collaboration that comes from working in groups. Now for the BIG NEWS...

ShareSpace has been accepted onto an exciting new funding platform called Kickstarter where people can support a new idea or project by making a donation in exchange for an awesome reward!  What makes this great is that people from all over can get involved by making a donation as small as $10.  Some include a sticker or a t-shirt while others score you a personal walking tour (given by yours truly,) taking you to lunch and even discounted, prepaid memberships!

Please take a look at our Kickstarter Project, video and awesome rewards HERE.

Kickstarter is unique in that it's an all-or-nothing effort.  If we reach or exceed our goal of $15,000 by the deadline, we'll get the funding and all those that donated will get their rewards.  If we are short however, by even $1, none of the donators will be charged, ShareSpace doesn't get funded and no awesome rewards for anyone.

This is why we need your help!

We want to make sure this space opens in our community and becomes a resource not only for those in the area, but one that draws more people to the downtown area.  As a co-working community, ShareSpace will be much more than a room of desks:

  • It will be a cost-effective alternative for those looking for office space downtown with no lease to sign and no surprise "extras"; everything is included in your membership.
  • Nonprofits and civic organizations can use it as a collaborative space to meet or host events, fundraisers or conferences.
  • A new rung will be added to the city's "economic ladder" and draw more people to the downtown-area by creating a hub of entrepreneurial activity ranging from tenured professionals to high-schoolers with an idea.

There is so much potential for this space, and as it is member-driven, they will help shape how ShareSpace benefits our community.  Please help us bring co-working to Rochester!
