Zinio Digital Magazines @RHPL

RHPL is pleased to announce its newest online service, Zinio digital magazines for libraries. This new service will give library users access to over 200 popular digital magazines on your computer or mobile device. With a valid Rochester Hills Library card, library users can check out an unlimited amount of magazines, keep them as long as needed and never receive any overdue fines!

These magazines can easily be viewed on any Internet-enabled device inside or outside of the library. Zinio’s unique technology digitally recreates a magazine page for page, including full color pictures, easy navigation, and interactive elements such as audio and video. Consumer Reports, Good Housekeeping, National Geographic, O, The Oprah Magazine and Reader’s Digest are just a few of the popular titles available.

Nella Martin, a library patron, is excited that she can save money by cancelling some of her current Zinio subscriptions and use the library services instead. “I’ve been using Zinio for several years and find that it’s an excellent way to read my favorite magazines while at the same time saving paper and extra clutter around my house.”

To use Zinio Digital Magazines, visit ebranch.rhpl.org. Instructions for using Zinio, including a how-to video, a downloadable help sheet and answers to frequently asked questions, and a complete list of the magazines are available. Zinio requires the setup of two accounts, an RHPL Library account and a Zinio Reader account. Once you are logged into Zinio all magazines that appear can be read immediately in an internet web browser or in a PC, Mac, iOS, Android, Kindle Fire, Windows8, or Blackberry Playbook app.

“After ebooks, downloadable magazines are the second most requested digital service from patrons,” remarked director, Christine Hage. “As soon as we heard that our local library network was purchasing a joint subscription, we jumped at the chance to sign up and offer Zinio magazines to RHPL patrons. Because we have purchased these magazines at a group rate, we’re able to offer a larger number of magazines while also saving over $1500 from our original quoted cost. ”
