What Should Move Into This Rochester Road Storefront?

Storefront situated alongside Golden Eagle sits vacant. What should move into this space?

Just north of downtown Rochester along Rochester Road sits a cluster of commercial spaces that includes a Dollar Tree and the Golden Eagle eatery.

One spacious storefront, situated alongside the Golden Eagle at 1445 N. Rochester Road, sits vacant with a for-lease sign.

What would you like to see in this space? Another restaurant? Or do you have a particular retailer in mind? Let us know in the comments.

It would be a great location for a pancake house like The Original Pancake House in Birmingham. More windows could be added to the south side of the building to make it a light and airy space to be filled with the aroma of pancakes and waffles. YUM!

Agreed, Rochester really needs a great breakfast place. There are some great chains (i.e. Yolk and First Watch) that always have people lined out the door waiting to get in. Lots of great, fresh, creative breakfast options, as well as plenty of healthy options if desired. A great example above, The Original Pancake House and then Toast in Ferndale, always have long lines as well. I think Rochester would be the perfect spot and is missing this (hint, hint DDA :)!'

I don't know if it would be big enough, but a Golden Corral would be nice in the area:)

How about a McDonald's, Burger King or Wendy's?? Being on the corner a drive thru may be possible. I hate the fact that there is no fast food place on the north end of town. I think it would do a huge business. Everyone I talk with agrees!

Please, no fast food places. I would love to see an upscale vegetarian restaurant in Rochester, something like Inn Season.

In defense of a fast food joint, there are none north of town, and it would be very handy for Mom's driving kids from schools to soccer etc. And there are so very many types of restaurants around to choose from.

A good retail anchor would be nice. Way back, that was a thriving strip mall with a Cunningham, Kresge, Wrigley's, card store, etc. There are a lot of eating places in that northern area-just up the road and across the street. It's may not be good to turn the entire area into nothing more than restaurants and bars. Little diversity.

I agree in no 'fast food' drive thru. That poor corner is so congested now I can only imagine what a McD's might do. I would love to see the Hallmark back. A reliable shoe repair; Mom and Pop shop; something more diversified.

Since this location is set back from the road and partly hidden by another strip of stores, it would hardly work as a drive through of any kind. I agree with Patricia Kane, we need diversity in that area, not more restaurants and bars.

I like the idea of a fast food restaurant north of town. Maybe it would help with the congestion farther south (ie McDonalds, Arby's and the coming Tim Horton's. A Hobby Lobby would be nice. A fabric store. Vince and Joe's.

I love this idea! Would also support an "Egg Harbor"!

John McKay... More info please? Why did this restaurant go under? The Golden Eagle was a landmark business... did the owners just decide to retire or was this economic? My parents favorite restaurant. Pattie and I would meet up with them there all the time when they lived in the area... were talking 25 years ago -- would take the kids there when they were two and four. I will miss this restaurant and the memories. :( John McKay... if it was just retirement and not economic; than lets hope for another Golden Eagle type restaurant...? That business model works at that location; and besides there is a wonderful new senior retirement home that has just been built next door.

Scot, The Golden Eagle is still there, John is asking about the empty spot next to the Eagle that was occupied by ABC Warehouse. That space has been empty for several years.

Marianne Maurer... "alongside"... I should learn how to get better at reading headlines*... thanks. *I'm in the advertising business -- so I win stick one's foot on one mouth award today. LOL, LOL -- Detroit Tigers are winning score 8 to 1-- I'm going back to watching the game.

Haha, Scot! Looks like they pulled out the win, too! I used Golden Eagle as a reference point because I figured it was a recognizable spot there. :)

I would like to see a flea market there. One with booths to rent. Not another antique shop, but one with misc. used and collectable items. The only one I know around here is the Dixie Flea Market and they have mostly new stuff.
veronica April 22, 2013 at 04:57 AM
What about a vitamin shop. I think there are toooo many fast food shops. I like the idea of a reliable shoe repair as well or a Flee Market or something of this sort would be good. An antique shop would also be good as it would draw customers for lunch at the Golden Eagle!

That area could use a real sporting goods store (like Cabelas, not Dick's), a nuts-and-bolts hardware store, an auto parts store, an inexpensive Chinese buffet-style restaurant, or an Asian grocery store.

This is an ideal spot for a 'REAL' ITALIANO BAKERY (not the imitation Papa Joe's!), which Rochester has always been lacking. We need like a Militello's Bakery @ 24 & Van Dyke - Wouldn't go anywhere else for the best. We just don't have it here in town. That location doesn't have the best of parking for a long period of time, so for running in and out it would be fine. I WANT AN ITALIANO BAKERY - PLEASE!!
