Want to Make Decisions in Oakland County? There's a Rochester Hills Vacancy on the Board

The election of Oakland County Commissioner Tim Greimel to the state House leaves a vacancy for the District 11 seat.

There's a temporary vacancy on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, and it represents the western part of Rochester Hills.

It's the seat most recently held by , who was first elected in 2006 to the Board of Commissioners. Greimel, a past president of the Rochester Board of Education, was elected last month to the Michigan House of Representatives to fill the 29th District seat that was The 29th District covers Pontiac and Auburn Hills, where Greimel lives.

The Board of Commissioners will appoint someone to fill the open seat by April 4.

“The statute provides that the board has up to 30 days to fill the vacant seat so that the local communities will not have to incur the costs of conducting a special election," said Michael Gingell, chairman of the board. "The board will act on this vacancy within the 30-day time limit.”

Residents of District 11 who are interested in being appointed to the seat should send their qualifications to the attention of Gingell at the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, 1200 N. Telegraph Rd., Pontiac, MI, 48341. Queries should be received no later than Monday, March 19.

District 11 includes Auburn Hills, Pontiac and the part of Rochester Hills north of Walton and west of Brewster to the city's borders on the north and west. The appointed board member would serve through Dec. 31, 2012; the future of the District 12 seat is in limbo because of uncertainty over board seat redistricting.
