Voters Say 'Yes' to One Ballot Proposal in Rochester Hills

Voters in Rochester Hills approved on Tuesday a proposal to re-purpose an expiring drain millage into a millage to repair and reconstruct local roads.

It was the seventh proposal on the ballot in Rochester Hills. Here's how the votes were cast, according to information from the Oakland County Clerk's office:

• Yes: 62.89 percent of votes (22,821)
• No: 37.11 percent of votes (13,466)

According to the results, 36,287 votes were cast for this question.

There will be no tax increase from the millage: the .4855 mills will be moved from the city's drain debt fund to a local street fund. The city's millage will remain 9.7060 mills.

The re-purposed millage will be effective on the December 2013 winter tax bill and be included in the 2014-15 budget. It will be in effect for seven years and will direct more than $1.4 million to local streets.

"The last question on the ballot could affect you the most," stated Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett in a brochure about the millage question.
