The Michigan House of Representatives on Thursday thanked first responders and honored Michigan natives who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks in a ceremony they hope to repeat annually.

"I want to thank all those in the Rochester, Rochester Hills and Oakland Township Fire Departments, and the police and county sheriff departments for their courage and dedication to our state," said state Rep. Tom McMillin, R-Rochester Hills, who attended the ceremony with two local first responders – Rochester Hills Fire Chief Ronald D. Crowell and Capt. Karl Holder – as guests.

"The citizens in my district are very blessed to have them as leaders in our community," McMillin said in a news release of Crowell and Holder.
