Ryan's Shrewd Budget Payday Exclusive: The congressman stands to make money from his stakes in four businesses that lease land to energy companies which would benefit from $45 billion in tax breaks and subsidies in his proposed budget. The financial disclosure report Ryan filed with Congress shows he and his wife, Janna, own stakes in four family companies that lease land in Texas and Oklahoma to the very energy companies that benefit from the tax subsidies in Ryan's budget plan.Ryan's father-in-law, Daniel Little, who runs the companies, told Newsweek and The Daily Beast that the family companies are currently leasing the land for mining and drilling to energy giants such as Chesapeake Energy, Devon, and XTO Energy, a recently acquired subsidiary of ExxonMobil…(Daniel Stone of Newsweek) www.thedailybeast.com - Jun 17, 2011 12:09 AM EDT Is Ryan going to vote for tax cuts for his oil companies????

Want to talk about companies? How did Obamas energy companies do? All tanked... I'm 29, I don't want my children paying for your generations failed socialist experiment...
Sandy Radcliffe October 08, 2012 at 10:10 PM
Well Mr. 29 I would suggest Factchecking on "Obama's" energy companies because you are wrong about all of them tanking (I see you are listening to Rob-Me's lies) AND Obama does not personally own stock in a company that is emptying our pockets everyday!!

Nathan - take a deep breath. No surprise, a candidate stretched the truth (to say the least) at a political debate. This time, it was Romney. He wasn't just a little off, or spinning a little here. FactCheck.org who normally gives rather sedate titles to their fact-checking called Romney's Green energy claims: "Romney’s Clean Energy Whoppers" http://factcheck.org/2012/10/romneys-clean-energy-whoppers/ Just SOME of the issues: ■Romney falsely claimed “about half” of the clean-energy companies that received U.S.-backed loans “have gone out of business.” But 26 companies received loan guarantees under a loan program cited by Romney, and THREE of those have filed for bankruptcy. The three firms were approved for about SIX percent of the loan guarantees. ■Romney incorrectly claimed the “$90 billion in breaks to the green energy world” was provided “in one year.” It was over SEVERAL years. - and it goes on and on from there detailing all the untruths. Read the fact-check. Not even close. So feel free to be for or against renewal energy, but you should know the reality. And also the reality of the REAL costs of fossil fuels - costs of policing the world with our military as well as climate changes which is costing billions. Just ask the insurances companies paying for all the extreme weather damage, crop losses.

Sandy, head on over to the rally and maybe you can hear first hand some of the things that you're looking for, instead of hearing the biased version that the lamestream media has been feeding you.

Ener1: FAIL! Ener1 Inc. received a $118 million U.S. Energy Department grant from President Obama to make electric-car batteries but filed for bankruptcy protection January 2012 after defaulting on bond debt.   Add up the dollars wasted for cronyism. Oh and Abound? Apparently they manufactured solar panels that worked-until they were exposed to sunlight. They are currently under investigation. Can you say fraud?
Kathy October 09, 2012 at 02:37 AM
***The Amonix Solar:  – manufacturing plant in North Las Vegas, subsidized by more than $20 million in federal tax credits and grants given by Obama Administration, has closed its 214,000 square foot facility a year after it opened. **Solar Trust of America: - Filed Bankruptcy in Oakland, CA, April 3, 2012  **Bright Source- warned Obama’s Energy Department officials in March 2011 that delays in approving a $1.6 billion U.S. loan guarantee would embarrass the White House and force the solar-energy company to close. Bright Source lost billions of dollars but is getting more money to keep trying. Can you say, “This isn’t working Mr. President?”  ***Solyndra: Obama gave $500,000,000 (that’s a HALF BILLION!) in taxpayer money to Solyndra who shut its doors and laid off 1100 workers in August 2011 after billions in losses due to failure to make a solar product that works!   ***LSP Energy: -  filed bankruptcy protection and a sale of its assets in Feb 2012  ***Energy Conversion Devices: On February 14, 2012 Itmand its subsidiaries filed for bankruptcy  ***Abound Solar: - received a $400 million loan guarantee  then announced in June, 2012 that it would file for bankruptcy. Many of these failed corporations, such as Abound, donated MILLIONS and continue to donate
Kathy October 09, 2012 at 02:41 AM
***SunPower: stopped producing solar cells in 2011 at near bankruptcy then restructured with the help of, get this, oil giant TOTAL, Inc. who owns 60% stake in SunPower. Irony? The company is still struggling.  ***Beacon Power:–bankruptcy protection in October, 2011 just a year after approved a $43 million Government loan guarantee. ***Ecotality: - a San Francisco green-tech company that never earned any money and remains on the verge of bankruptcy after receiving roughly $115 million in two loan guarantees  ***A123 Solar- received $279 million from taxpayers thanks to Obama’s Department of Energy loan guarantees even after the Solyndra bankruptcy and is getting another $500M from Obama after a loss of $400M.  ***UniSolar: - filed for Ch 11 bankruptcy in June 20, 2012 after laying off hundreds of workers. UniSolar received even more Obama money after showing no progress, no profits and is still failing  ***Azure Dynamics:- filed for bankruptcy in June , 2012 wasting millions in Obama “Stimulus” money and received abatement on taxes owed and and several tax credits.  Azure Dynamics LLC filed for bankruptcy protection in Canada and the US.  Azure laid off 120 of its 160 employees ***Evergreen Solar:  received $527 Million in Taxpayer money from Obama and filed bankruptcy in late 2011. closed its taxpayer-supported Devens factory in March, 2011 cut more than 1800 jobs.

Kathy - you mention nearly all solar - and those failures have way more to do with unfair trade with China which current admin is filing legal action against this at double the rate the W admin did. Fall out from solar failures as well as anti-alternative energy political pressure from the Right and big Oil, has slowed other energy source development as well. Please read this Patch article - my comments lay out the China situation: http://rochester.patch.com/articles/bright-auto-will-cease-plans-to-create-green-vehicle-and-jobs-in-rochester-hills In particular, my comments mention this Bloomberg article: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-02-24/china-encourages-solar-product-makers-to-expand-amid-supply-glut.html Fraud, theft and cronyism? - you should look into private military contracts - especially Iraq. The whole war turned out to be wasted American lives, fabricated data to engage, and ultimately payola to friends of especially Cheney and Rumsfeld. In most other democratic countries, they'd be tried for treason. That's why they have such a hard time traveling internationally (that, and the promised protests by other nations). BTW, yesterday Rumsfeld endorsed Romney's foreign policy plan. Scary, considering Rumsfeld got us into Iraq on a certainty of "WMD's", now Romney's ready for round 2 in Iran. Rumsfeld: March 30, 2003 on Weapons of mass desrutcion in Iraq, “We know where they are. They are in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad.” Uh- huh. Still looking....
Erin October 09, 2012 at 02:52 PM
Kathy - the loan program that enabled these alt energy loans was started by GWB in 2005 with the "Energy Policy Act of 2005" passed by a Republican-controlled Congress and signed by Bush. W's admin promoted the loan guarantee program, and Bush himself touted it on his way out of office, including specifically prioritizing Solyndra's project. Obama admin merely TEMPORARILY expanded Title XVII of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (adding Section 1705) as part of the SHORT TERM Stimulus aka American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. I agree that once things were looking unfavorable, particularly given China's increasing manipulation of this market, the final monies should not have been awarded. However, there were many failed companies who received gov't subsidized loans during W's and really ANY other POTUS's terms can be found. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/nov/17/david-plouffe/solyndra-loan-george-w-bush-david-plouffe/
