Rochester Votes Romney (and Other Local Election Day Data)

Here's a breakdown of election results in Rochester and Rochester Hills.

We know who won the national, state and county votes. But who won over Rochester and Rochester Hills voters? Here's a closer look (and we've included a precinct map for each city):

Rochester for Romney

Here's how Rochester and Rochester Hills voted for the presidency.

In Rochester, 55.94% of voters supported Mitt Romney while 42.98% of voters supported Barack Obama. Precincts 2, 4 and 5 supported Romney; precincts 1 and 3 supported Obama.

In Rochester Hills, seven of 32 precincts supported Obama. They were: 2, 4, 11, 15, 20, 28, 30. The overall vote in the city was 54.38% in support of Romney and 44.41% in support of Obama.

Hoekstra gets part of the local vote

Sen. Debbie Stabenow won re-election to the U.S. Senate seat for Michigan, but in Rochester, her opponent, Pete Hoekstra, won the vote. Hoekstra came out on top in precincts 4 and 5 in Rochester and in the following precincts in Rochester Hills: 8, 9, 10, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 25, 26, 29.

Overall, Hoekstra won Rochester 50.63% to 46.17%; Stabenow narrowly won Rochester Hills 48.55% to 48.32%.

Big support for roads

All 32 precincts in Rochester Hills ended the night with a "yes" vote on the local roads millage re-purposing in the city.

Bishop supported by hometown

Former state Senator Mike Bishop lost his bid to unseat Oakland County Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Cooper; the margin was 51.55% for Cooper to 45.30% for Bishop. But Bishop, who lives in Rochester Hills, overwhelmingly won the vote in Rochester (59.71% to 37.02%) and Rochester Hills (56.83% to 40.17%). All precincts in Rochester supported Bishop; in Rochester Hills, only precincts 2, 11, 15 and 28 declared Cooper a winner.

Straight ticket

In Rochester, 2,010 voters cast a straight-ticket Republican vote; 1,188 cast a straight-ticket Democratic vote.

In Rochester Hills, 10,821 voters cast a straight-ticket Republican vote; 7,514 cast a straight-ticket Democratic vote.

45th District House race

Incumbent Tom McMillin won with 55.44% of the vote, or 25,971 votes in Rochetser, Rochester Hills and Oakland Township. Challenger Joanna VanRaaphorst received 43.56% of the vote, or 20,406 votes.

According to a precinct-by-precinct look at the votes, VanRaaphorst edged out McMillin in two of five Rochester precincts (1 and 3) and five of 32 Rochester Hills precincts (2, 11, 15, 28, 30). McMillin won overwhelmingly in Oakland Township.
