Voters in Rochester and Rochester Hills went to the polls today to elect a president of the United States, a state representative and more than a dozen other offices.

UPDATE, 8 p.m.: The polls in Rochester and Rochester Hills are now closed. Check back for results; we will bring them to you as we get them!

UPDATE, 4 p.m.: The votes are in and first-graders at Eagle Creek Academy have elected ... Mitt Romney! He won by three votes in a mock election at the Oakland Township school today. Read more about it here.

UPDATE, 3 p.m.: It's democracy at its finest in Rochester Hills as Patch captured on camera Tim Maurer (an outspoken supporter of Joanna VanRaaphorst) and Jeremy Nielson (an outspoken supporter of Tom McMillin) campaigning next to one another in front of St. Mary of the Hills.

UPDATE, 2 p.m.: Here's what we know about absentee ballots in the cities of Rochester and Rochester Hills. In Rochester, 1,858 were turned in; in Rochester Hills, 12,489 were returned.

UPDATE, 1 p.m.: Incase you need more incentive to vote, Rochester Mills Beer Co. is offering two free sample pours of beer to customers who vote. Across town at Rockin' Cupcakes, the bakery has a buy-one-get-one deal for voters. Here's a look at more deals for voters around town.

UPDATE, NOON: At Adams High School the two candidates for state representative greet voters about 20 feet apart from one another. The turnout at the school, the site of precincts 18, 25 and 29, has been steady, voters report.

Tom McMillin, the Republican incumbent, said he is encouraged by the voters he has met during his campaign and he has heard from residents who want to "keep the state turning around."

Joanna VanRaaphorst, the Democratic challenger, said she has talked to many people on their way into the polls today who said they were planning to split their ticket. "I feel very encouraged by that," she said.

The candidates made small talk with one another — mostly about the weather — while campaigning.

UPDATE, 10:30 a.m. At Precinct No. 23, Danish Village in Rochester Hills, workers have already seen 280 voters — more than the total number who turned out at that precinct on Primary Day in August.

UPDATE, 9 a.m. Voters in Rochester and Rochester Hills are reporting lines of up to one hour this morning at various precincts across town. 

On the Rochester Patch Facebook page, most readers were reporting being about the 100th person to vote at their precinct this morning. (Join the conversation at www.Facebook.com/RochesterPatch.) On reader reported waiting an hour at West Middle School at 6:50 a.m.
