Rochester Hills Plans $2 Million in Road Construction

"It's bad," said a commuter who passes through Rochester Hills on his way to work. "It's horrible."

Rochester Hills plans to spend an additional $2 million per year  a year for the next three years to repair deteriorating roads.

The plan, announced by Mayor Bryan Barnett during his annual State of the City address, has been backed by the City Council, the Oakland Press reports.

Some of the roads that could see improvements include those in the Cumberland Hills, Eddington Farms and  Thornridge neighborhoods, as well as on Avon and Tienken roads. Improvements would be improved in cooperation with  the Road Commission for Oakland County.

Residents and commuters have complained about potholes and other deteriorating road conditions.

“It’s bad,” said commuter Bill Gillilend, who travels through Rochester Hills on his daily commute to his job in Rochester. “On the right side of the road, it’s horrible. Everybody’s swerving trying to miss and half the time they don’t or (potholes are) covered up by water or something.”

Some residents said the  problem is ongoing in a state with cruel winters.

“I think it has to be done,”Esther Cram said of the repairs needed this year. “It will never be done perfectly because this is Michigan. There will never be a perfect solution to this in my time.”
