Rochester Hills Mayor Announces Bid for Re-Election

Mayor stops by Miguel's Cantina, where Rochester and Oakland Township Patches are covering Cinco de Mayo, to announce the news.

Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett, the youngest elected official in the city's history, announced today his bid for re-election.

Barnett stopped by to tell Rochester Patch that he officially filed for re-election Thursday morning.

"I've had the absolute privilege to be the mayor of the city now for over five years," Barnett said.

Barnett said he loves campaigning and looks forward to a summer of knocking on doors — and taking his family along. He is married to Corrin; they have two sons, Tristan and Kenneth.

Continuing to work on economic development in the city will be a focus of Barnett's.

"I love what I do, and I have a job where I wake up every morning and I love going to work," he said. "It's easy to campaign for something you really enjoy."

As of Thursday morning, Barnett is running unopposed for the four-year term.

Barnett was sworn in as mayor in April 2006. He previously served on the Rochester Hills City Council for six years. According to his campaign website, Barnett is the second-youngest mayor in the United States of a city with a population of more than 50,000.
