Rochester Area Fire Crews Respond to Simulated Tornado

They help test statewide activation of fire resources through the Michigan Fire Service Mutual Aid Box Alarm System.

On Thursday, fire fighters and personnel from Rochester, Rochester Hills and 12 other area fire departments at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

The exercise – which was centered on a fictional, devastating tornado hitting Anytown, MI – tested statewide activation of fire resources through the the Michigan Fire Service Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS). The Palace was one of four staging locations used in the exercise, which was headquartered in Traverse City.

The demonstration at The Palace was led by Independence Township Fire Chief Steve Ronk and Auburn Hills Fire Chief John Burmeister and included fire and EMS services from Rochester, Rochester Hills, Troy, Novi, Milford, Independence Township, Groveland, Addison Township, Brandon Township, Auburn Hills, Oak Park, Oxford and Oakland Township.
