City council members were concerned with some of the language in the residents' proposed amendment and .
Since then, leaders of the group, which calls itself SPACE (Saving Parks And City Enivornment) have organized a petition drive to put their own version of the charter amendment on the ballot.

The reason for the two separate efforts? Looming November election deadlines; residents have said that if City Council does not move quickly enough, they will lose their window to put the charter amendment to a full city vote.
