On the Agenda: Rochester City Council to Discuss Siren System, Electric Charging Stations

Council meets tonight at 7:30.

Rochester City Council members will hear a presentation from the Friends of the Clinton River Trail and also an update from the City Beautiful Commission during tonight's regular meeting.

The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at Rochester City Hall.

  • An agreement with Detroit Edison to install two electric car charging stations in the city. It's part of a grant from Detroit Edison to fund up to $25,000 of the cost of the equipment. The equipment would be installed in public parking lots. 
  • The purchase of a Harley Davidson motorcycle for the Police Department; funds for the purchase were approved in the 2012 budget; bids range from $14,450-$17,187.
  • Request to pay for the painting of the fire station; $20,000 was budgeted for this job, and the lowest bidder is $14,775.
  • Special event requests for downtown sidewalk sales (July 14-16), Arts and Apples (Sept. 9-11), Breast Cancer Awareness Walk (Oct. 5), a Garden Walk Preview Party at Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm (June 15) and a cycling fundraiser for Camp Mak-A-Dream (Aug. 21).
  • A public hearing for changes in tenancy for business properties; city administrators are proposing a certificate of occupancy be required.
  • Consideration of the city's continuing participation in the county's Community Development Block Grant program through 2014.
  • Consideration of an ordinance that would regulate and control storm water run-off.
  • Appointments: Mayor Jeff Cuthbertson will appoint one person to the Planning Commission and one to the Downtown Development Authority; city council will appoint one person to the Board of Review and one to the Community Media Network.
  • Consideration of benefit changes for employees, including a retirement health savings plan for new hires.
  • Wages for city clerk, finance director and city manager; city manager Jaymes Vettraino is requesting these rates not be increased this year. They were not increased in 2010 or 2011.
  • Timeline for implementation of the
  • The installation of a severe weather warning system; it would involve a $17,250 purchase of siren equipment.

City council members will end their night in closed session to discuss a confidential legal opinion from the city attorney.
