New Parks & Rec Master Plan Proposes Community Center, Handicapped Accessible Parks

The plan identifies six main goals for Clinton Township parks and rec, ranging from improving the handicapped accessibility of local parks to building a community center with an indoor pool and gym.

When it comes to amenities, aquatic options top Clinton Township residents' wish lists for parks and recreation.

In a recent survey conducted to help develop the 2013-2017 Parks & Recreation Master Plan, township residents listed an indoor pool and splash park as the recreational features "most needed" in the township.

However, the same survey found most residents were only willing to pay a maximum of $50 a year via millage to support recreational programs.

To help the township achieve some of its goals in parks and recreation – and to ideally do so without placing any additional burden on taxpayers – local residents and officials have been hard at work developing a five-year master plan the township can use to focus its efforts and better target available funding.

The proposed master plan, which can be viewed here, identifies six main goals, ranging from improving the handicapped accessibility of local parks to building a community center with an indoor pool and gym.

Although the plan is just about complete, residents have until Friday to submit their ideas and wishes to the Parks & Recreation Department. Call the office at 586-286-9336 or email recreation@clintontownship-mi.gov.

Apparently a millage to fund the construction of a rec center failed several years ago. Would you support one now?
