Joel Alan Garrett, Oakland County Business Finance Corporation and Building Authority chairman, was killed Friday in a plane crash.

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson has issued the following statement about Joel Alan Garrett, chairman of the Oakland County Business Finance Corporation and the Oakland County Building Authority. Garrett was killed Friday in a plane crash in southeastern Minnesota along with his son, Dale Edward Garrett of Berkley, and John Paul Bergeron of Birmingham. Injured in the crash was Joseph Stevens of Bloomfield Hills:

“The deaths of Joel, his son and friend are both untimely and tragic. Joel was first and foremost a good friend. His leadership was steady and deeply respected by his colleagues. The loss of his outstanding stewardship of both the BFC and Building Authority will be felt by many for a long time. Our deepest sympathies go out to the Garrett and Bergeron families. We also offer our prayers to Joseph Stevens and his loved ones.”
