Revolutionary War Graves Rededication

On Saturday, August 18, at 1: 00p.m., a very special event is planned in Mount Avon Cemetery for two Revolutionary War patriots.  A rededication ceremony involving several organizations will honor Benjamin Loomis and George Horton.  These patriots should never be forgotten for their service for our freedom.  The organizations involved in the ceremony are the Oaks Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution, Stoney Creek Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Rochester Historical Commission, Rochester – Avon Historical Society, and the VFW. A number of the descendants of these two families will be present. The public is invited to attend this important event. For more information call Rod Wilson (248) 651-6178.

The two men’s graves are not properly marked with no mention of their service to our country and our freedom.  On Saturday we will be marking these graves so that anyone who sees these grave sites can pay tribute to these courageous men.  I am a member of the Michigan Society, Sons of the American Revolution (MISSAR) Color Guard and will be there in my George Washington Guard uniform.  Please join us at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The attached picture is from September, 2010 at the Andersonville Cemetery, Davisburg, Michigan for the grave dedication of Caleb Pratt, Revolutionary War Patriot.  Members of MISSAR Color Guard are giving a sword salute in honor of Patriot Pratt.
