Yeehaw! Rochester Police Department Hosts Bike Rodeo and Open House

The open house included a bike rodeo, family-friendly activities and an opportunity to sign up for the Michigan Child Identification Program.

Instead of bulls and cowboys, it was bicycles and mechanical police officers at Saturday's Rochester Police Department Open House, which included a bike rodeo, family activities and an opportunity to sign up for the Michigan Child Identification Program.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office robot was out talking to and entertaining kids and families, and Oopsie Daisy the Clown crafted balloon animals that kept kids smiling.

The bike rodeo included a bike safety check, free bike helmets with fittings and bike safety instructions for kids of all ages.

The police department also displayed department vehicles new and old, including its current Ford Interceptor. Nearby, a 1989 Dodge Diplomat also sat on display.

Many families enrolled in the Michigan Child Identification Program during the open house, fingerprinting and voice-identifying their children. So far this year, more than 4,000 children have enrolled in the program, which helps identify missing children.
